North Carolina AI laws: what's in force, and what's coming
North Carolina has no comprehensive or sector AI statute; its main enacted AI-related law is a 2024 sex-crimes update that the legislature's trackers list as covering AI-generated sexual images, including of minors. Bills on AI in insurance utilization review (HB 565) and deepfakes (HB 934) remained in committee as of October 2026, while Governor Stein's Executive Order 24 set up AI governance for state agencies.
