North Dakota's AI laws
| Law | Status | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| AI disclosure statements in political content | In force | Political communications and ads with AI-generated content that impersonates a human must carry the statement 'This content generated by artificial intelligence'; text-editing uses are exempt. |
| Sexually expressive images, including deepfakes | In force | Extends the offence of creating, possessing or distributing nonconsensual sexually expressive images to altered or computer-generated images, with a civil remedy for victims. |
| Computer-generated child sexual abuse images | In force | Makes knowingly possessing computer-generated images of sexual conduct by a minor a class C felony, or class B in aggravated cases. |
| Prior authorization reform (physician review, not AI) | In force | Sets prior-authorization rules for health insurers, including that adverse determinations be made by licensed physicians rather than AI systems. |
| Harassment and stalking with a robot | In force | Extends harassment and stalking offences to conduct carried out with a robot, defined to include AI-driven systems. |
| Definition of person excludes AI | In force | Defines 'person' in the Century Code to exclude AI, animals, environmental elements and inanimate objects. |

In a defense AI workflow
North Dakota has no comprehensive AI statute; in its 2025 session it enacted targeted laws requiring AI disclaimers on political content, covering computer-generated sexual images, limiting AI's role in health-insurance prior authorization and extending stalking law to robots. The legislature meets only in odd years, so no new AI laws were made in 2026; state agencies follow an NDIT AI policy first issued in 2023.

Optional evidence · where Planisphere fits
Keep a record anyone can check
When your team meets a duty, Planisphere can seal the event it reports as a receipt.
A disclosure shown, a review signed, a model change approved: the event your system reports.
The event becomes a sealed receipt, dated and attributed to whoever is signed in.
Paste the receipt into Verify. No account or key.
A record supports your compliance evidence process. It is not a legal finding or a certification. Systems that call Planisphere's gate API can also hold or refuse an action before it runs.
