Illinois AI laws: what's in force, and what's coming

Illinois regulates AI through several targeted statutes: AI in hiring (video interviews since 2020; discrimination and notice under the Human Rights Act since January 2026), AI therapy limits (2025), and digital replicas (2024). In July 2026 it enacted the Artificial Intelligence Safety Measures Act, which requires large frontier developers to publish safety frameworks, report incidents and undergo third-party audits.
