Conversational AI Safety Act	Enacted, effective later	Requires chatbot operators to disclose AI use when users could think they are talking to a person, adopt self-harm response protocols, and add protections for minors; enforced by the attorney general.
Synthetic media in electioneering communications (FAIR Elections Act)	In force	Lets a candidate deceptively depicted by synthetic media in an electioneering communication seek an injunction and damages; a prescribed disclaimer is a defense.
Disclosing explicit synthetic media	In force	Creates a crime of disclosing explicit synthetic (deepfake) media of a person without consent; H 727 raised penalties, including a felony for minor victims, effective July 1, 2026.
AI-generated child sexual abuse material	In force	Adds a crime covering visual representations of child sexual abuse, including images made with generative AI.
Generative AI in public education	In force	Directs a statewide framework for generative AI use in K-12 public schools.

In a legal AI workflow

Idaho has no comprehensive AI statute; it regulates specific harms, including election deepfakes (2024), AI-generated child sexual abuse material and explicit synthetic media (2024, tightened 2026), and conversational AI chatbots (2026, effective July 2027). State agency AI use is governed by an Office of Information Technology Services policy issued in August 2025.
