02 / EO 14179

What EO 14179 requires

It is the policy root of the current federal AI rules for agency use and purchase. Compliance duties for AI systems come from the OMB memos it triggered, not from the order itself.

  1. 01Develop and submit an AI Action Plan to the President within 180 days (named White House advisers).
  2. 02Review actions taken under revoked EO 14110 and suspend, revise or rescind those inconsistent with the order's policy.
  3. 03Revise OMB memoranda M-24-10 and M-24-18 within 60 days to match the policy (OMB Director).
  4. 04Provide available exemptions while revisions of conflicting EO 14110 actions are pending (agencies).

03 / ISO/IEC 42001

What ISO/IEC 42001 requires

AI-specific. It is a governance system for how an organization develops, provides or uses AI systems, not a technical test of any one model.

  1. 01Define the AIMS scope, the organization's role toward AI (e.g. provider, user) and relevant interested parties.
  2. 02Top management sets an AI policy, AI objectives and assigns roles and responsibilities.
  3. 03Run AI risk assessments, AI risk treatment and AI system impact assessments, and record a Statement of Applicability.
  4. 04Plan, operate and control AI processes, applying the Annex A controls selected in risk treatment.
  5. 05Monitor, measure and evaluate AIMS performance through internal audits and management reviews.
  6. 06Correct nonconformities and continually improve the AIMS.
